Monday - The Petrified forest.

Full on day ! Woke up in a log cabin, went to bed in a Wigwam. Nathaniel and Amelia became junior park rangers and I got stopped by Arizona's finest for jumping a stop sign ! Well it was never going to be for speeding !!!

Having left our cabin in Gallup we headed across the border into Arizona, and stopped for a cup of tea ! This fine buisness venture on old route 66 is for sale if anybody is thinking of relocating !
A small detour South from our route took us through the Pertified Forest National Park. The landscape was mind blowing! It was on entering the park that we got pulled for failing to stop at a stop sign ! Apparently I then made things worse by getting out the vehicle to greet the officer ! 20 minutes later (and after getting back in the vehicle) we were sent on our way with a warning! With the kids wanting to know when I would be locked up !!
While we stopped for a picnic lunch, Nat checked out the local rides !
The Park is so named because of the numerous "stone" trees deposited across the landscape. Having been buried, petrified then exposed again due to erosion !
Some hard study resulted in the award of "junior ranger" status for both Amelia and Nataniel. It was then off to the town of Holbrook to stay in our Wigwam ! Pixar fans will no doubt recognise it as the cosy cone motel !!!

  1. Your vehicle looks right at home with the others at the Wigwam Motel.

  2. And by the way, Martin, you failed to mention if Officer Friendly had his trusty "detection dog" pay your bus a visit. :)

  3. Just noticed that you are going past London Bridge (the one some idiot bought, thinking he was buying Tower Bridge) got to be a must see ! it is by Lake Havasu City..
The Havasu London Bridge now serves as a backdrop for a Tudor-style Medieval English village. Quaint shops and restaurants can be found throughout the area. You can even tune into radio KBBC, which is identified on the air as "BBC radio." The lights on the bridge had been constructed from Napoleon's cannons, which were melted down and made into bridge lamps.

    1. Thanks for all the gen. We had wondered about having a quick look at the bridge. Sharon said that as well, that they bought the bridge by mistake! Is that reqlly true ?

  4. I think they deny the mistaken identity of the bridge but it adds a nice edge to the story which is pretty funny anyway. The London Borough Council was trying to find a way to raise the money needed to scrap it - 20 million tons of Granite from Central London ! and some clever bloke decided that they should sell it and they did - the bloke paid to take it away and by then is was no longer the larget bridge in the World anyway.. Like the idea of using French metal for the lamp posts though, we could do that with all sorts of battle chest culdn't we.
Did you find the Music yet - you will need a decent WiFi connection to bring it all down though..
